Simple Tips on Cleaning and Disinfecting Your Home – A Basic Guide

People don’t often think of the need for basic housekeeping knowledge when it comes to how to disinfect your home. The kitchen usually becomes the main area for such preparations and, as such, it’s easy to forget to do things properly.

This is why it’s crucial to learn some simple methods that will not only keep germs away but also help you get rid of the residues left behind by unhealthy and dangerous food preparation surfaces. Here are just a few simple tips that can help you disinfect more surfaces in your home:

Use hot water instead of chlorine or bromine. Just about all commercial disinfectants used for the purpose of killing germs are made from either chlorine or bromine. However, neither of these substances is particularly effective for disinfecting kitchen surfaces.

The hot water has a much higher boiling point than either of them, which means that they simply don’t work well at all. Instead, opt for a commercial disinfectant that uses granular carbon.

Granular carbon takes out heavy metals, including the dangerous cadmium that was found in a significant amount of water used to kill germs in drinking water samples taken around the country. Do not use rubbing alcohol or bleach to disinfect your surfaces.

Though these substances have disinfecting properties, they also remove grease marks that can be left behind after soap and water have been used to clean them. For surfaces like countertops and tile, you should instead use a mild, pH-balanced vinegar and water solution.

You can find both in spray bottle form. Do not use chlorine-based cleaners. Home disinfectants that contain chlorine or other chemicals as disinfectants are not necessarily better than naturally occurring ones. In fact, using such disinfectants in high concentrations can even make infections more likely in your household.

Do not use rubbing alcohol or bleach to disinfect your surfaces. Though these substances have disinfecting properties, they also remove grease marks that can be left behind after soap and water have been used to clean them. Our recommendations is that you consider calling this specialist in disinfection services. It’s the more cost-effective choice!

For surfaces like countertops and tile, you should instead use a mild, pH-balanced balanced vinegar and water solution. You can find both of these at your local grocery store. Do not use hydrochloric acid cleaners. Like rubbing alcohol and bleach, hydrochloric acids are not necessarily better than natural products.

They do, however, leave a residue that will attract and hold germs. If you do not wash your hands right away after touching an area where an acidic cleaner has been used, you can end up having a serious outbreak of acne because of it.

These acids are commonly used as disinfectants, but if they are not washed off immediately after use, they can stick to your skin. You can purchase commercially available natural bleaches and cleansers at your grocery store.

Do not use powdered bleach. Although powder-based cleaners are more effective than their liquid counterparts, you should never use powdered bleach on your skin. This substance is very irritating and will lead to skin irritation, especially in conjunction with certain medications.

Do not allow children to play in rooms that have been disinfected with bleach. Although many people believe that using water mixed with soap and water is the best way to disinfect your surfaces, this is not always true.

Instead of using disinfectants, opt for solutions that will kill bacteria on contact. The most effective of these is to use a solution containing either Vitamin E or Zinc peroxide on your surfaces. These substances will not harm your skin, or cause you to break out, but will eliminate germs and leave your surfaces clean and dry.
